What is a Book Fair/ Festival?
It is a celebration of the written word and the people (authors, writers) who write these words and those that publish (publishers) the work of the writers. All the books will have a picture or art that has been drawn (by an illustrator) on the cover so it can look beautiful and colourful in order to attract the reader (parent, teacher, sibling, grandparents).
So, in a nutshell a book fair is meant to celebrate the work of the authors, writers, poets, publishers, illustrators, cartoonists in which the general public comes to buy their work, meet them in person and listen to them sharing the stories behind their writings, drawings, art or illustrations. These people gather in one place (fair / festival) to showcase their art.
What to expect at the Book Fair
Authors / writers showcase (exhibit) their work, read from their books and sell their books to the visitors of the fair and signing (autographed) copies of their books for readers.
People (panels of authors) that review the work of a particular author, analyse theme specific topics. This is normally done in a seminar like environment whereby questions can be asked by the attendees.
Poetry, dancing, demonstrations, reading and storytelling
Exhibition stalls and tables where you can buy books and other reading-related material.
